Images from Antarctica - The Last Great Wilderness

Antarctica is a land wrapped in snow and ice yet graced with abundant wildlife, every changing moods, and spectacular scenery. In my 26 voyages to this frozen wonderland I have captured the magic of this remote continent on film for others to enjoy. All images are museum quality Cibachrome & Dye transfer prints are available in either matte or high gloss finish. Each print is custom made and is available in a variety of sizes, however the 16 x 20 format is recommended for those who are looking to capture the essence of this unique land. Each image is signed by the photographer and is available in the 16" x 20" format at $350.00 each for Cibachrame prints and $500.00 each for Dye Transfer prints.

The use of large format 4x5" and 8x10" view cameras is essential to Ward's vision wherein design is supported by a respect for detail and tonal gradation impossible to achieve with smaller cameras. In addition to the pristine landscape seen both near and far, he works extensively with the relics of mankind, principally Indian and mining ruins. His interest is in the ephemeral nature of civilization and the work is often presented with considerable abstraction.

With cameras in hand and gifted with the eye of an artist and the trainings of a scientist, Charles "Charley" Wheatly has traveled to all seven continents and has been an integral part of over 100 expeditions focusing on the natural history and cultures of remote destinations. hit love of nature and his photographic talents enable him to capture the stunning beauty of the Antarctic, the remarkable diversity of the Amazon Basin, the wonders of the underwater world, and the many moods of the South Pacific and its people, to name just a few.

Mr. Wheatley's images have been showcased in numerous international publications, the National Geographic New Service, museum exhibits, private collections and his images are selected by leading travel companies to capture the magic of remote destinations. When not exploring some hidden corner of the world, Charley can be found in San Diego working on his extensive image library, teaching environmental sciences or providing consulting services.
