The Jesuits constructed the stone church at
San Javier from 1744 to 1758. Padre Baegert, the
Jesuit who supervised the construction of neighboring
San Luis Gonzaga, described the building process in some
detail: "Building material like workable stone, and
limestone is difficult to find at most missions.
However... time, industry, hard work, patience, and
a large number of donkeys and mules will
overcome all difficulties." |
